Melissa Wolken joined the Buffett Institute in 2018 as a bilingual educational facilitator. She works with Gomez Heritage Elementary in Omaha Public Schools. Wolken provides on-site support to elementary school leaders and teachers, enhancing teaching and learning in preschool – third grade classrooms. She also supports teachers through professional development workshops and coaching as part of the Superintendents’ Plan. Wolken has over eight years of experience as an English as a second language and dual-language Spanish teacher. She most recently served as a dual-language/ESL lead teacher for Omaha Public Schools and holds teaching certificates in elementary education, English as a second language, and Spanish along with an elementary principal endorsement. Wolken will be helping the Institute move its work into the Gomez early childhood community and forge collaborative relationships with community-based early educators and connections with Gomez Heritage school. She earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Doane University and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and Spanish from Creighton University.
