Join the Tribal Early Childhood Research Center to hear how Tribal Head Start programs are grounding their early childhood practices in Indigenous knowledge. Whether fully implementing culturally grounded curricula or just beginning the lay the groundwork, across the 3 Learning Circles, you will learn how programs rely on their Indigenous knowledge of children’s development to build curricula grounded in culture, refine curricula over time, and assess children’s progress consistent with Indigenous values and visions for children’s development. The webinar is open to all who want to know more about supporting Native children and families through approaches grounded in Indigenous wisdom and practice.

Lana Garcia oversees the Pueblo of Jemez Walatowa Head Start program, now in its 11th year of full language immersion. Join Garcia to hear how the Walatowa Head Start curriculum was developed with community input and grounded in Jemez child development beliefs and practices. Learn how the curriculum has evolved, includes aligned assessments of children’s development, and serves as a model for other programs seeking to design and implement culturally based curricula of their own.

Vannessa Goodthunder is the Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewic̣akiya Itaƞcaƞ of the C̣aƞṡayapi Waḳaƞyeża Owayawa Oṭi, a birth-5 Dakota immersion school whose mission is to raise the next generation of Dakota Iapi speakers at C̣aƞṡayapi, the Lower Sioux Indian Community. Join Goodthunder to hear how Dakota culture and language are forming the basis of the curriculum her team has developed, what they are learning through planning and implementation, and how they are designing aligned assessments of children’s development.
