Laura Cady joined the Buffett Institute in 2024 as an early childhood specialist supporting the expansion of the Superintendents' Early Childhood Plan. With over 15 years of experience in early childhood education, Cady specializes in early literacy, dual language support, and family engagement. She is passionate about fostering collaboration, adaptability, and international mindedness, believing that diverse perspectives and strong partnerships are essential for supporting children, families, and educators.
Before joining the Institute, Cady held various roles in education, including paraprofessional and early literacy specialist, as well as international and dual language teacher, all in bilingual (Spanish and English) settings. She has focused much of her career on supporting multilingual learners and creating culturally responsive educational resources. Most recently, Cady has connected with local communities to author children's books that celebrate the unique voices and cultures of Nebraska families. These books promote a love for reading from birth and expand access to culturally relevant literacy materials.
An Omaha native, Laura holds a master’s degree in elementary education from Creighton University, along with a bachelor's degree in English and Spanish from Northwest Missouri State University. She completed graduate endorsements in English as a Second Language at Concordia University and in bilingual education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her international educational experience spans Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, and four years in Colombia, which deepened her global perspective and reinforced her commitment to international mindedness.
