OMAHA, Neb.—The University of Nebraska System has appointed Mark Ginsberg, the president of Towson University in Maryland, to the Buffett Early Childhood Institute Board of Advisors.
Ginsberg’s appointment was made by University of Nebraska System President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., on recommendation of Buffett Early Childhood Institute Executive Director Walter Gilliam.
The Institute’s Board of Advisors brings together accomplished early childhood leaders from across the country to help inform and support the Institute’s work. Advisors, including Ginsberg, recently convened in Omaha to meet with staff and university leadership, review emerging Institute priorities, and provide strategic guidance.
“I have had the opportunity to meet President Ginsberg and see firsthand the thoughtful, strategic leadership he brings to his work,” said University of Nebraska System President Jeffrey P. Gold. “He is a big-picture thinker who can turn vision into action and understands the critical role early childhood education plays in the long-term strength of our communities, our workforce, and our nation.”

Before being tapped to lead Towson in 2023, Ginsberg served as a psychologist, educator, and senior administrator at institutions including George Mason University, The Johns Hopkins University, and University of Rochester.
From 1999-2010, he was the executive director and chief executive officer of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and was previously the executive director of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Gilliam said Ginsberg brings a deep understanding of the systems and partnerships needed to improve outcomes for young children and families.
“Mark Ginsberg has devoted his career to strengthening the institutions, policies, and professional communities that shape children’s early learning and development,” Gilliam said. “His national leadership and extensive experience will be an invaluable asset to the Institute’s Board of Advisors. We are honored to welcome Mark and the perspective and leadership he will bring to our work on behalf of young children, families, and the early childhood workforce.”
Ginsberg said joining the Institute's Board of Advisors is an honor.
