CHRISTINE MAXWELL

Dr. Christine Maxwell joined the Buffett Institute in 2014 and works with a wide range of early childhood services and providers to improve teaching and learning for children from birth through Grade 3. Dr. Maxwell, a national thought leader in birth-through-third-grade education, leads the Institute’s work with the Superintendents’ Early Childhood Plan, which was launched in Omaha and surrounding communities in fall 2014 to reduce achievement gaps for young children living in high concentrations of poverty. The plan, one of the most comprehensive birth-through-third-grade initiatives in the nation, was developed by the Institute in partnership with the 11 school districts of the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties. Her areas of expertise include early childhood education and urban public school reform. She previously served as director of the New Schools Project at Erikson Institute and was a principal and developer of alternative schools in Milwaukee. While at Erikson, Dr. Maxwell partnered with the Chicago Public Schools to advance the quality of PreK – Grade 3 education. She received a bachelor’s degree in marketing, a master’s degree in early childhood education and a Ph.D. in childhood education, all from Florida State University.
